Barbara Linn Probst is a writer of fiction and non-fiction living on an historic dirt road in New York’s Hudson Valley. Her acclaimed debut, Queen of the Owls, is the story of a woman’s search for wholeness, framed around the art and life of iconic American painter Georgia O’Keeffe. Her second novel, The Sound Between the Notes, explores timeless questions of identity and belonging through the unique perspective of a musician. The Color of Ice, Barbara’s third novel, continues her exploration of how art can help us become more fully human and is framed around the magical art of glassblowing.

Each of Barbara’s books has been a medalist for prestigious national awards, including the Nautilus Award for Fiction, the Hawthorne Prize, the IPPY (Independent Book Publishers Association) Award in both literary and popular fiction, and the Sarton Award for Contemporary Fiction, for which she was the gold medalist. Barbara’s latest novel, Roll the Sun Across the Sky, launches in May of 2025—a mesmerizing and unforgettable story that New York Times bestselling author Fiona Davis calls “a treasure—profound and moving, and impossible to put down.”

Barbara has a PhD in clinical social work and is a former researcher, teacher, advocate, and therapist. She has conducted workshops and webinars for organizations including the Author Learning Center, the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, and the Kauai Writers Conference online. In her spare time, she is a “serious amateur pianist” and an avid traveler to places such as India, Alaska, Spain, Italy, Armenia, and Iceland. Next up: the Himalayas in Spring 2025!
