About Writer Unboxed
Writer Unboxed is dedicated to publishing empowering, positive, and provocative ideas about the craft and business of fiction.
Founded in 2006 by Kathleen Bolton and current editorial director Therese Walsh, the site now hosts more than 50 contributors, including bestselling and rising authors and industry professionals.
Writer Unboxed has been named a best site for writers by multiple outlets over the years, and we're grateful for every mention. Writer's Digest has notably named WU a best site for writers every year since 2007.
WU is known for its robust comment section, where the conversation further evolves with the input of community members.
Writer Unboxed published its first and only book for writers with Writer's Digest (now Random House) in 2016. Called Author in Progress, this book is meant to help all writers at various stages of development as they work through the process of writing and refining a novel's evolving manuscript. Learn more about Author in Progress HERE.
Writer Unboxed held its first live event--the Writer Unboxed UnConference--in November, 2014, in Salem, MA, followed by a second successful UnConference in 2016 and a third in 2019. Learn more about those HERE.
Our first online event--the Writer Unboxed OnConference--premiered in September, 2022. Was there a way to bring the magic of our in-person event to a digital sphere? We found the perfect platform to come as close as possible, and loaded our event with opportunities for community interaction and connection. We also trickled our 18 sessions on the craft and writing life out over 2+ weeks at times meant to dovetail seamlessly with your life at home. Learn more about that HERE.
Sign up to learn about our next UnConference and/or OnConference as early as possible by subscribing to our dedicated conference email list HERE.
Join over 5,000 other writers in WU's promo-free Facebook group--rich in conversation and writerly support.
