We are delighted to introduce you to Catherine McKenzie’s new novel, Fractured, available to you on October 4th. For those of you who don’t know her, Catherine is the bestselling author of five novels which have been translated into numerous languages. She lives and writes in Montreal, Canada, where she works as an attorney. Catherine joins us today for an interview about her new novel and to share some special news.
“A contentious past leads a young couple to move thousands of miles from home to an exemplary family community when things go terribly wrong in Catherine McKenzie’s latest tour de force, Fractured. When tragedy strikes, everyone is a suspect, as McKenzie masterfully weaves together the stories of Julie and John: strangers who become friends, neighbors who become enemies. A tightly drawn narrative that begs the question: How much can we really know about those living closest to us? Truly riveting!”
-Mary Kubica, New York Times Bestselling author of The Good Girl and Pretty Baby
Q1: What’s the premise of your new book?
Catherine: A bestselling author who is being stalked by a fan moves across the country to start over and gets embroiled in a neighborhood controversy.
Q2: What would you like people to know about the story itself?
Catherine: There are two timelines: a 12 hour day where a family is waiting to testify before a grand jury and the 12 months leading up to that day.
Q3: What do your characters have to overcome in the story? What challenges do you put before them?
Catherine: Perception. So many things hinge on people’s perceptions of events and the characters in the story.
Q4: What unique challenges did this book pose for you, if any?
Catherine: The timeline was a definite challenge. I’ve never written in two timelines before.
Q5: What has been the most rewarding aspect of having written this book?
Catherine: I think it has come together well and the twist at the end will- I hope- be satisfying and surprising.
