Writer Unboxed Logo Contest, and (Coming Soon!) Auction

By Writer Unboxed  |  January 9, 2012  |

PhotobucketWe have plans. Oh, do we have plans.

In the coming months, you’ll hear a lot about a WU newsletter. This newsletter, which we hope to publish regularly, will be filled with fresh and valuable content from contributors you already know, and some new voices as well. (We’ll post a “newsletter subscribe” button in the near future–one thing at a time!) We’ve also been plotting a Writer Unboxed Retreat–where to have it, what exactly we’d want our focus to be–but we’re still working on that one, so stayed tuned.  And something else, something that we’ve been brainstorming for a while. More about that under the cut.

Because we’re expanding the WU brand again (my, don’t we sound entrepreneurial?) we thought it might be nice if we had a Writer Unboxed logo. And because we know that YOU are our biggest source of creativity and inspiration, we decided to have a contest to see what the WU community can create.

Interested?

The WU logo we’re envisioning ideally incorporates “Writer Unboxed” or “WU”, and would be easily adaptable to icon size (100×100 pixels), but other than that we’re open to ANYTHING your creativity can bring. Once we narrow submissions down to our top three picks, we’ll put the choices up on WU for a vote. In exchange for allowing us all rights to use the top-rated logo, the winner will receive:

  • a “forever” link on WU’s sidebar to their personal website or blog
  • a Q&A and profile in our debut newsletter
  • AND bragging rights; never discount the power of those

If you’d like to give it a shot, send us a jpg of your creativity with the subject LOGO CONTEST to us at writerunboxed@writerunboxed.com  before 5 p.m. EST on January 26th. You’ll be able to help us choose the winner during WU’s first ever auction.

What’s this about an Auction? Read on….

PhotobucketYou’ll remember our post a few months back about the need for helping hands and support for infrastructure. We were blown away by the response, especially after our quiet placement of our “donate” button; we are truly grateful to have your support. (And you folk who’ve donated? You won’t be forgotten!)  We’ve made some strides–like finalizing our hunt for WU’s assistant–but now we need to take it to the next level and gather some additional funds. After mulling the various options, we’ve decided to keep our fundraiser in-house and hold a small auction.

What’s up for auction?

Simple stuff.

  • ad opportunities on our site, starting at the top right, where you see our rotating book covers now
  • promo opportunities, including the chance to blog with us

We hope you see this as the win-win that we do. We’ll help bring attention to your work by giving you the opportunity to shine on WU. At the same time, this fundraiser will help to cover our expenses and allow for the continued growth of the community. We’ve been so grateful for the growth and support we’ve experienced that we know these incentives will be of value to the winning bidder(s).

When does it all begin?

The auction will kick off later this month, on Saturday, January 28th. We’ll provide more of the nitty gritty details then.

The logo contest? Starts now! Good luck, everyone! And write on.

A logo design contest? Hm… What can I say? Challenging! It sounds challenging indeed! :) Let’s see if I come up with something.

You guys are on FIRE! I’ll support in all ways possible…with the exception of the nude centerfold deal. I know it would bring in mountains of cash but I have my own brand to consider.

I hadn’t noticed the donate button, so thanks for pointing it out. Love everything you have in the works. My bro-in-law’s the logo artist in our family (did about four for our business over the years) so sent the link to him. Kind of a short deadline, but we’ll see.

    So exciting! Go WU!

    THis is SO exciting.

And, um, I feel really stooopid, but I’ve never noticed the donate button until today – or maybe I saw it and it just didn’t register! *kat slaps forehead*

Need to go click on that button now!

I look forward to all of these new opportunities.

Wow I find the idea of the logo-designing contest genial! And of course, I’m in! That’s something really fits for me, I used to be a graphic designer in the past. Thanks for the possibility!

  18. Kathleen Bolton on January 9, 2012 at 6:37 pm

Thanks for the good wishes and the excitement, everyone! We can’t wait to see what you all come up with for the logo, and we hope you’ll find our auction tempting.

I love the idea of a logo! I’m constantly spreading the word about WU, my favorite blog, and that’ll help me. I’ll display it proudly on my webiste under favorites.

I never noticed the donate button before and am going to check it out, and an auction sounds intriguing – I’m looking forward to that.

Best of luck with all the expansions!

    Truly, Julie L. Cannon
