Comic: New Year’s Resolutions

By Debbie Ohi  |  January 7, 2012  |

I have to confess that I actually did make a New Year’s resolution: to (mostly) stay offline in the mornings until I get a solid block of creative work complete. As Jane Friedman pointed out in her recent column on Writer Unboxed, I needed to decide what I’d stop doing to make more time for what I really wanted to do. I also plan to follow Barbara O’Neal’s advice and keep these morning appointments I’ve made with myself.

    Right!

Back it is to #amwriting for me, after finishing my writing goals for 2012.

I do love your cartoons, Debbie, and your Twitter updates. I go looking for your tweets. But now I’ll have to do that after 2 pm PST because we’re both plugging away (off-line). Best of writing to you for 2012.

That would be except at weekends right?

This would be exactly why I deleted my Netflix account…

Love the cartoon and your post had some great sites and advice. I also am cutting down on my internet time. I need to revisions done and more writing.

Such an accurate portrayal of my views, lol. Thanks for sharing!

Love the comic! I’ve tried to keep my resolutions basic and realistic, but it’s difficult to stop, sometimes. So many goals sound good on paper, and with the new year, everything seems possible! But for me, I’ve found that baby steps is always best. It’s how everything is ultimately done!

Ooops! I might resemble that one at times. ; )

Those are EXACTLY my three new years resolutions! How’d you do that?

Funny. At my last Toastmasters meeting, I was given a Table Topic asking about my New Year resolutions. The answer I gave was pretty much the same as in the comic.

I vowed to relax more this year and not set myself too many goals. Yeah…that’s already going out the window. Old habits and all that.

That cartoon is the old me!

I think that this year I am going to work on changing habbits rather than making goals for myself, so there is no goal to lose weight but their is a habbit to go to the gym evey other day. If I do these things with no long term goal to hit then I cant fail and I wont feel down if I miss them!

    I’d listen to the advice :) I didn’t make a New Year’s resolution… but I never do. :P

I’m trying to write smarter rather than harder this year… starting tomorrow, honestly! Good luck with those resolutions and thanks for links.

Thanks for the laugh and the link to Jane’s post. I missed it over Christmas. And, I’m also trying to stay offline in the mornings. It’s helping me be more productive.

Cute comic, Debbie! And I agree…getting on the internet and trying to catch up with everyone’s messages, blogs, emails, etc is keeping me away from writing so I will have make sure to set aside specific time slots during the day to turn my attention to other things besides writing, editing, revising, polishing, etc…;0)

It’s humorous, but in reality that’s exactly my problem: the time I spend on the internet.

I need to follow your example :-)

I always have these vague things stomping around in my head – yes, I recognize those don’t fit together: vague and stomping around, thus is the chaos abounding. Dang.

Cute and sounds very familiar. It’s great when we can laugh at ourselves!

Well, it’s that time of the year again!

I just wanted to stop by and say it was an awesome comic, Debbie! Thanks! :)

Hoping your new year’s resolutions for 2012 are all marked for “complete”!
