Writer Unboxed will be taking a little break between now and the first of the year. We have big plans for 2012, but we’d also like to hear from you about what you’d like to see here in the coming months. Have burning questions? A topic you’d love for us to cover? Let us know, and we’ll do our best to address those things.
In the meanwhile, we hope you have a great holiday season. Thanks for another fab year as part of the WU community.

Writer Unboxed began as a collaboration between Kathleen Bolton and Therese Walsh in 2006. Since then, the site has grown to include ~50 regular contributors and a variety of guests on rotation throughout a given year.
In 2016, the Writer Unboxed team published a book with Writer’s Digest / Random House. AUTHOR IN PROGRESS: A No-Holds-Barred Guide to What It Really Takes to Get Published is a comprehensive guide focused on helping writers over/around/through hurdles faced at every stage of the novel-writing process. It’s received some ***** reviews; we hope you’ll check it out.
If you’d like to be among the first to know about the next Writer Unboxed UnConference, which will likely tie-in with WU’s 20th Anniversary celebration, please sign up for our mailing list!

Among the blessings for which I give thanks is WriterUnboxed, a daily companion and stimulating input. Thank you, Therese and Kathleen. Please keep it going and don’t change a hair for me, not if you care for me. (OK, a touch of plagarism, so sue me).
Yes, what Alex said!
This is such an informative group/blog – something for everyone!
I also just want to offer a heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful contributors, and to everyone who participates in the WU community.
But mostly to Therese and Kath. This has been a seminal year for me, and in no small part because of WU and my involvment in the rich, supportive, and inspirational community you have created and nurtured.
Wishing you two and everyone a fabulous holiday season, and looking forward to the best year yet in ’12! Go WU!
Therese and Kath, best wishes to both of you for a happy holiday season. Your blog is awesome. You provide guidance and inspiration to writers everywhere and that’s a great gift.
Enjoy your break. We will see you next year!
I hope everyone enjoys their holidays! Thanks, Writer Unboxed, for all the great fodder.
Just wanted to take a minute to wish you all a Merry Christmas and an even better New Year. My hope and prayer for all is that the New Year may be even more full of love, joy and creativity.
I just this blog within the last month or so, and it has already made a difference. Please take care, and I’m looking forward to your next post.
I look forward to every post, and print out many of them to read over and over, highlighting and underlining passages, and enthusiastically spreading the site’s address to all my writing classes. Thanks for the wisdom and Merry Christmas to every single one of you.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. May the holidays find you rested and well on the way to refilling your creative well.
Suggestion for Next Year: If it hasn’t already been covered, I would find it helpful to see a post or series of posts on crafting characters for series fiction. What does it take when developing a character who will recur through more than one or two books?
Related to that: Sometimes you get a nugget of an idea in your head that snowballs into several related story ideas. What criteria do you apply when determining whether you have the nucleus of a series of stories or when you need to clamp down on your imagination and stick to a stand-alone idea.
Best on the holidays to all at WU!
This site was one of the best finds for me–so much great practical info!
Big thanks to Therese and Kathleen! WU has become one of my FAV sites to check in, learn from and participate. Love it! See you next year! Hugs!
Here’s wishing the Blog Mamas a thriving New Year.
