Comic: NaNoIdMoAdMo
By Debbie Ohi | November 5, 2011 |
In case you’re curious, I’m participating in PiBoIdMo and am also a NaNoWriMo Rebel. Do YOU participate in writing challenges? Why or why not?
If don’t have time for 50k this month, you want an ongoing writing challenge with some built-in flexibility, I’ve set up a 250, 500 and 1000 Words A Day Challenge for writers (also on Facebook).
Whatever challenge you do take, don’t get so caught up in the social fun and forget to WRITE.
p.s. I mention NaNoEdMo in the comic, but it’s actually a novel editing challenge rather than a writing challenge. If you’re interested in participating in this annual March event, here’s some info.

Hi Debbie,
Love the comic! I’m doing NaNo WriMo. I love working towards a common goal with other writers. And I love watching my word count grow up the fancy graph thing.
Just to let you know, the NaNoEdMo link doesn’t work. :( Is this the one you were looking for?

Doing ROW
Sorry, last one was incomplete. I’m doing ROW80 and am a NaNoRebel. I’m writing a flash fiction every day based on the prompt I post at my blog. Way, way behind on my blog reading and forums? Fuggedaboudit!
Jessica: thanks for letting me know about the link! I’ve fixed it. :-)
Liz: woohoo for NaNoRebels!
LOL! Hilarious, Debbie! And congrats to you for entering BOTH challenges. It will be quite a month!
That comic is so, so true of so many things… I, too, am guilty of talking too much about goals instead of putting the energy into actually achieving them.
I haven’t officially participated in any of those writing challenge events. I can see the benefits, but it’s a bit too chaotic for me right now. I do wish everyone luck with their writing challenges!
The comic is all too relevant to too many areas of my life! I’m kind of doing NaNoWriMo but only as a means to motivate me to burn through my current draft at a higher speed.
I joined NaNo for the first time this year for one big, important reason. Work Output. I wanted to kick my butt into gear with my new WIP- at a 10,000 plus word count today-day six.
And although you’ll never find me at a coffee house tapping in unison to another writer’s key-strikes- I can’t help but believe that the world-wide participation in the endeavor of creation (or even just in the talk of creation) this November – plays a part in making our planet a better place to be.
Love your comic, and good for you you fearless writer!
First, I jumped into NaNoWriMo– then followed it to FAWM, that is, February Album Writing Month– https://www.fawm.org
Then that led me to the 50/90, (at FAWM site) which is 50 songs in 90 days. All of which has made my winters uber-productive for the last few years!
This year year I neglected to join November Album Writing Month on FB. I did set myself a challenge of writing a flash fiction every day in October to get ready for NaNo.
But I will be a newbie at NaNoEdMo this March, using it to make great inroads on my big WIP. And get close to a shoppable draft, I hope.
I use these pockets of human energy to help me write more and stronger as times goes on– but your point is well taken; last night I read about writing instead of writing.
Hi Debbie,
I just found your blog (while procrastinating from NaNo) and added it to my Google Reader. Great stuff! I look forward to future posts.
