Release me

By Kathleen Bolton  |  August 17, 2009  |

The release of my first book for Working Partners, CONFESSIONS OF A FIRST DAUGHTER, is nigh. It was exactly this time last summer that I delivered the final revisions to the editorial team.  September 1, 2009 seemed so far off into the future.  And now it’s almost here, and the hardcover edition releases in a few short weeks.

Like Allison, I’m finding my emotions veering from excitement to nausea, and back again.  Though I was commissioned to bring Morgan Abbott’s story to life, there’s a lot of me in this book, from characterization to the wisecracks.  It’s a frothy read for teens, and the advanced reviews understand exactly who these books should appeal to.  My editor sent over the reviews from HarperCollins (sorry, no online links yet, except to Amazon):

“A fun-filled adventure . . . Fans of Cabot’s All-American Girl series will scoop up this one.” VOYA.

“A fun and breezy fantasy that’s full of girl appeal.” Kirkus Reviews.

Wow.  I’m reading reviews.  From a book I wrote.

I’m hopeful CONFESSIONS does well in the marketplace.  In June I delivered revisions for the sequel SECRETS OF A FIRST DAUGHTER.  Then, we wait to see how the sales are. HarperCollins bought only two titles to this series; if sales are good, more titles are possible.

Meanwhile, I’ve got my own stuff to work on.  In this business, you gotta keep it moving.
