Take Five Interview: Jason Starr and THE FOLLOWER
By Kathleen Bolton | August 13, 2007 |

Q: What is the premise of your new book?
The premise of THE FOLLOWER is The Date from Hell. It’s about a young woman in Manhattan who becomes the object of affection of a guy who’s beyond repair deluded. It’s about how people in the city, despite their best efforts, continually misread each other.
Q: What would you like people to know about in this story?
It’s a suspense novel set in the current NYC dating scene, but there’s also a lot of dark humor in it. In my books I never want to hit people over the head, trying to write about issues. My number one goal is to entertain, for the book to be a fast, fun read.
Q: What problems and challenges do your characters have to overcome in this story?
As she being to realize the danger she’s in, Katie’s biggest challenge is just trying to staying alive.
Q: What unique challenges did this story present you, if any?
It’s the first time I’ve had a female main character. Also, while I’ve had many psychos in previous books, Peter might be the most disturbing I’ve ever written, so it was a challenge to get inside his head and make readers understand the way he thinks.
Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of this book?
Writing the book was rewarding. Hearing the great response it’s been getting from readers has been even more rewarding. That’s what it’s all about.
Great interview! Thanks for posting. =)
